Important Points for All Candidates
In all applications a genuine commitment to the school’s mission, aims and values should be demonstrated in the application. In particular, successful candidates will embrace the concept of inclusive, differentiated learning practice and the concept of challenge for all. West Island School has a strong Guidance and Achievement ethos and all staff are expected to be active tutors and to conduct one to one tutoring sessions.
The whole school has a deep commitment to Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) and candidates should outline in their applications what they can offer students in learning beyond the classroom.
The school has a one-to-one laptop scheme. All staff and students have laptops for learning. A demonstration of commitment to learning technologies is therefore essential.
In all applications offering a second subject is an advantage.
Teacher of English (possibility of TLR3)
An energetic and committed specialist to join a vibrant faculty and to teach across the age and ability range including IGCSE English Language and IGCSE English Literature. Experience in IB an advantage, not a pre-requisite. An experience in drama teaching preferred. An interest in cross curricular development and in developing inquiry essential.
There is a possibility of a TLR3 to lead IB development in the upper school

Head of English (TLR1)
An innovative and energetic English teacher to lead a dynamic and successful department and to develop new courses at IB level including Language and Literature and Literature and Performance. The department teaches IGCSE language and GCSE literature and is considering the introduction of IGCSE World Literature, for 2012 pilot and 2013 fully.
The successful candidate will have had some leadership experience previously and a proven ability to develop others and to manage change. A desire to orchestrate genuine and meaningful inquiry focused cross curricula work at Pre 16 a pre-requisite.

Head of Design Technology and ICT (TLR 1)
An innovative and energetic Design and Technology and ICT specialist to lead a creative and extremely successful faculty. The faculty offers textiles, food technology, resistant materials, graphics at GCSE level as well as level 2 Engineering and Hospitality BTEC courses. In our upper school BTEC Engineering is offered as well as IB CADCAM and Resistant Materials at higher level/standard level. ICT is a core aspect of our Pre 16 programme where all students complete a diploma and is offered at IB in group 4. The successful candidate will have had some leadership experience previously and a proven ability to develop others and to manage change. A desire to orchestrate genuine and meaningful inquiry focused cross curricula work at Pre 16 ostensibly between ICT and Design and Technology a pre-requisite.

Teacher of Design Technology
An energetic and committed specialist to teach across the age and ability range including GCSE and IB, required to join a highly successful faculty which offers GCSE, BTEC and IB diploma programmes.
Recent experience of teaching IB Diploma Design Technology preferred. The ability to teach across the subject including resistant materials graphics and, if possible “CADCAM” an advantage. An interest in teaching ICT and in cross curricular development for inquiry units useful.

Teacher of Art
A committed, experienced and dynamic teacher of Art to join a thriving Creative Arts Faculty which consists of Film Studies, Art, Drama, Dance and Music. The faculty has a “Circle in the Water” production company and unites to create innovative and exciting performances and installations.
The successful candidate will be a creative, innovative practitioner who will be able to teach across the age and ability range, and provide vigour and challenge for all. A willingness to teach across IB diploma programme, GCSE and BTEC classes as well as in lower school would be advantageous.

Teacher of Geography
An enthusiastic, innovative teacher of Geography across the age range with a specialism in physical Geography, to join the Geography department which sits within the Individuals and Societies Faculty; a highly successful and professional team leading the school in inquiry and inter-disciplinary development.
The preferred candidate will have a commitment to, and experience of, experiential learning and fieldwork as well as experience at GCSE. IB Geography and Environmental Systems experience an advantage, not a pre requisite.
The school is also looking to develop a “Global Perspectives GCSE” course in 2013 and candidates who could take a lead role in this would be at an advantage.

Teacher of Chinese
A committed and experienced Chinese language teacher (native Putonghua speaker) required to join a high achieving, dynamic faculty. The Chinese department within Modern Foreign Languages offers IGCSE and GCSE pre 16 as well as IB post 16.
The successful candidate will be able to teach the full range of students from Chinese as a foreign language to Chinese as a first language from Year 7-13.
The preferred candidate will have a high proficiency in Chinese language and be able to teach Chinese literature, inclusive practice, good written and spoken English skills and an experience of teaching students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Assistance with organization of Chinese activities and field trips an advantage.

Part time teacher of Spanish
To join a successful and growing Languages Faculty offering Spanish, French and Chinese at the school.The preferred candidate will be able to teach across the age and ability range from year 7 to 13. Experience at IB and IGCSE an advantage but not a pre requisite. The ability to teach other languages would also be an advantage.
